![]() ![]() Through Connections, the centerpiece of our outreach programs, the Museum facilitates 6,000 visits by low income Latino, Asian, and African-American children and their families each year. We want all families to feel welcome and to have a sense of inclusion, safety and respect while visiting the Museum. With a 7.5 acre indoor & outdoor site in historic Fort Baker, we offer a number of hands-on, interactive exhibitions for children ages 6 months to 8 years, their caregivers and educators.Lookout Cove 2.5 acres of outdoor play features natural, cultural and built icons of the Bay Area, including the Outdoor Learning Lab, a full outdoor classroom where children can experiment with native plant and soil ecology to help spark in them lifelong environmental curiosity, inquiry, observation, empathy and appreciation, which is the best way we know to promote responsible environmental stewardshiwith the theme of animal homes.Art StudiosChildren of all ages experience hands-on projects in two studios, where they can work collaboratively or alone, take their work with them or add to a permanent installation.Bay Hall An interactive simulation of the Ports of San Francisco and Oakland, with boats, trains, sea creatures and interactive exploration of Bay Area environments.Wave Workshop Discover the science of waves and wind-with the theme Form Follows Function-with demonstrations of how natural and human design illustrate the principles of fluid and aerodynamics. Discovery Theater The Museum’s 180-seat theater for performing arts for children and families.Ī primary mission of the Bay Area Discovery Museum is to ensure that children from the diverse and varied communities of the Bay Area have access to the Museum and can participate fully in our many educational programs.
